Diamond was sitting in the kitchen having a cup of tea when Sapphire
walked in. She didn’t speak to her until she had her own cup and a piece
of toast. The two of them had always been very close, but she had a
feeling that she was mad at her for some reason.
“You were willing
to leave us all behind instead of doing the right thing.” Diamond nodded
but didn’t look at her. “Do you have any idea how worried you made all of us because you were too selfish to let us help you?”
“I know what I was doing and the fact that you let me do it was more
appreciated than I can ever tell you.” Sapphire snorted, and Diamond
looked up at her. “I think I killed him.”
Sapphire stared at her for
several seconds before she threw back her head and laughed. It sounded
so good that Diamond joined her. When Sapphire reached for her hand,
Diamond curled her into hers and held it tightly.
“Don’t do that
again, please. I don’t know what I would do without you.” Diamond nodded
and felt Thad stir in her bed and looked up at the ceiling. “You and
him have mated and bonded then, I take it?”
